Teeny Weeny Bikini

A few months back I met with designer Ashley Eady to catch up on life since I interned for her at Teeny Weeny Bikini Co. Her latest designs - a line of 50's remake suits - had just come through from the manufacturing company and were ready for the new season. Ashley is all about keeping it real so she often handles a project herself. This time around she wanted to experience working with a whole team, so it was completely serendipitous that I told her I was working on a portfolio as a fashion stylist. We immediately started planning a fabulous shoot to showcase the new pieces.

This project has meant so much to me for so many reasons. Ashley was the first person I interned for so it felt really great to revisit that experience in a new way. I am also really proud to say that we used some real models for the shoot (a first for me). Every woman can wear a teeny weeny bikini, and that has always been the back-bone of Ashley's line. In fact, Monica and Genna are actually TWB Co. customers! All in all, the images are fantastic; everyone was so great! I love every single one of them because each shot is just so alive with joy and colour! See more here.

Pretty Bloom

A few months back I was asked to style for the new collection of Pretty Bloom bridal accessories, a line created and hand made by mother-daughter duo Dao Van (who is an extremely talented hair & make-up artist) and Mrs. Tam. We had a selection of beautiful gowns from Mirella's in Burlington, a vintage Victorian wedding gown from Peacock Chic and a few other looks I put together, shot by Megan Breukelman. You can see some of the images on Pretty Bloom's site.

Sandra

This is Sandra. Whatta smoke show! I mean seriously, she is a firecracker bomb! Yes, I said firecracker bomb 'cause she's not just a firecracker - she's also a bombshell! Sandra is fantastic! I shot with her a while back for an editorial with Daniela Majic. Sandra definitely rocked it & I am thrilled with how it turned out! Check out the full editorial here!

Déjeuner Part II

Déjeuner at Mulberry Street Coffee House was a larger production. The Imperial Style Group got together with photographer Daniela Majic to shoot an editorial at the Mulberry on James St. N. Featuring a wardrobe from Peacock Chic and White Elephant Co., as well as some familiar Hamilton faces to round off our team and show the best of vintage style. I already showed you the BTS video but here are some of the final images! The shoot was included in issue six of Coco Magazine and Marc at Hamilton Magazine wrote a wonderful article on it!

Kate M.

I have A LOT of catching up to do! I had pretty much given up on blogging not too long ago. Let's be honest, I'm just not very good at it. I can go for days on an assignment, if someone hands me a topic, but pulling ideas out of my ass is hard when you lack inspiration. That being said, I've kind of found myself on my fashion journey in the last few months and have been filling that inspo void by starting a portfolio as a fashion stylist! Now my blog's core will be a platform to share my work and talk about the projects I've been so fortunate to work on. Starting with this one.

I posted BTS images from my Instagram forever ago so I must share the finals here and talk a little bit about the day. I came out to Waterloo for a fun and colourful studio shoot with Daniela Majic. We are both from Hamilton so we mostly work together there but it was a little tricky trying to book the model she really wanted. All in all we decided we absolutely had to go to her. And I am so so glad we did. Kate was AMAZING! See the full editorial in Xquisit Magazine!

Déjeuner

We had Bryan Gauer of Inspired One New Media Productions come on board and create a behind the scenes look at an editorial shoot we recently shot. Five models, one hair stylist, one MUA, the three of us for wardrobe, and a photographer. We shot at Mulberry St. Coffee House on James St. N.

FASHION films

They say a camera takes a piece of the soul and watching that footage back, seeing the creativity or rawness, can help you get to know someone like you never had before. Film is an amazing medium by which to share an idea and when those images are focusing on fashion, I can't help myself. It's a great way to visualize the designer's inspiration for a collection. Who is the woman wearing this? How does she feel?

I've been following a new series of videos conceptualized by Fashion Magazine's online editor Randi Bergman. As producer, Randi is connecting Canadian designers and directors for weekly collaboratives. In it's third week, each short thus far has had a completely different feeling. Although I haven't read how long this series will last, I'm really excited to see more of these unions. This kind of project is special to me because it is a great way to bring more attention to the Canadian fashion industry. And I'd like to see that happening on an international scale in the future.

Check out the first installment by Eva Michon featuring Calla Haynes and follow the rest of the series here.

Girl Panic!

I love this video! It`s so stylized and glamourously edgy.
Duran Duran were one of the first bands to start using models in their music videos and their newest single features the Supers! This is rock and roll.

Need more curls.. (The first words that came to mind when I started reviewing these photos) Please forgive my napped-on hair. I snapped these photos behind the bar on the main floor of my house, look at me trying to be sexy! I completely forgot all of my faux-model skills but all together I think this look is a little bit Marilyn Monroe, a little bit Jessica Rabbit and a little bit Dita Von Teese maybe?

This is what I wore for 2011's year end festivities and to be honest, the shoes cost more than the entire outfit. You must be thinking "that's quite impossible, she's got her fur on!" but I bought it secondhand for a measly $35. I know right!? What I love about this stole is that it actally has structured shoulders and it's a great length. Don't you think it makes the whole outfit look so much more lavish?

Now while my shoes were one hundred, I purchased them way back in September. They are Guess and this is the first time I've actually worn them. The dress is totally 80's with its giant shoulder pads and even though it has sleeves, I think the sweetheart neckline brings all the sex appeal. It was also a thrift find and with the way it fits me, you can imagine how stoked I was to see a ten dollar price tag. TEN DOLLARS!!! amazing.
So. What did you wear?

Here are my resolutions for the new year:
1: Actually go on a trip (my first ever trip). Finally leave the country and go have some fun somewhere.
2: Find a better paying job. Enough retail, I gotta find a better way to support my habits.
3: Get active. I have a closet full of beautiful clothing that don't fit me anymore, what a waste..
4: Try more trends. I make inspo boards on Pinterest based on runway, now I gotta take it a step further.
5: Get some really good content going on this blog and build a readership.

I'm usually a total Grinch from November 15th to December 28th but the holidays were very different for me this year. I was completely broke even though I worked 3 jobs. I was able to relax and keep to myself. My ears did not bleed from all of the awful renditions of Santa Baby playing in the malls. And it was overall less stressful. Christmas came and went with absolutely no fuss. And even though I didn't really have an extravagant wishlist (or a wishlist at all) I was pleasantly suprised with all the wonderful goodies I received from friends and family.
